A new Nevada casino will rise from the rubble where Las Vegas Club once stood in downtown Las Vegas. Plans have been revealed for a new 777 casino-resort to be built on Fremont Street. The unnamed property is tentatively known as 18 Fremont, the address for the former Las Vegas Club.
Derek Stevens, owner of The D and Golden Gate casinos in downtown Las Vegas purchased the Las Vegas Club casino in 2015. He later purchased the Glitter Gulch, Mermaids, and businesses on the street. Over the past two years since the land was purchased, he has demolished all of the properties on Fremont Street in between Main Street and 1st Street. The busy construction site is currently a dirt lot.
Now that everything has been demolished, it’s time to begin construction on the new casino-resort that will occupy all of that Fremont Street Experience frontage. Stevens recently submitted plans for the new property to the city of Las Vegas. Once approved construction will begin.
Word on the street is that construction will begin this summer and take two years. If all goes well the new casino-resort could open for business sometime in late 2020.
Plans for the property currently known as 18 Fremont
Plans call for a hotel tower that is 459 feet tall and has 777 rooms. The large hotel tower is so tall that it will have to be approved by the FAA before it can be built. Visitors to the Fremont Street Experience won’t be the only guests with easy access to the new casino-resort. There will be a large porte-cochere and valet area on Main Street. Plans call for a 143-foot tall parking garage with 1,488 parking spaces across the street from the casino in between Main Street Station and the Plaza.
One of the unique plans for the new hotel calls for a connector bridge that will link the parking garage across the street and right into the second level casino. The only other casino in downtown Las Vegas with more than one level is The D. Not coincidentally, that property is also owned by Derek Stevens.
The new casino floor(s) will be huge. Plans for the new casino include a 117,740 square-foot gaming area. If approved this would become the largest gaming floor in downtown Las Vegas. The plans show that at least two levels of the casino will include a gaming area. As of this time, it doesn’t appear as though the planned pool deck will include space for gaming.
The new casino will not have a dedicated nightclub. However, Stevens requested that they can use more than 600,000 square feet of space in the casino and parking garage as a nightclub. Essentially, this will allow the casino to have music playing and drinks served in more than half of the space the two buildings occupy.
Other plans for the property include a sportsbook, multiple dining options, some kind of spa, meeting rooms, a ballroom, and a rooftop bar and lounge.
